Wednesday Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1. Something that's had you 'chuffed to bits' recently?

I am feeling settled and cozy in the home we bought over the summer and it's bringing me such joy! I added some autumnal decorations on Sunday and it makes the house feel even more like ours.

2. Tell us about an instance recently where you were tempted to 'throw a wobbly' (expression used to describe tantrums thrown, usually by adults or people who should know better)

Honestly, when doctors appointments that have been scheduled for 6+ months get cancelled and rescheduled without consent and then you have to scramble to reschedule knowing full well how far in advance the offices book out. Why make an appointment if it's going to change and then you'll be pushed out even farther? It drives me absolutely crazy, and even more so when the appointment in question isn't for me, but for my child.

On a similar note, my insurance changed over the summer and the hoops we had to jump through to get my medicine I take for my autoimmune disease covered that I've taken for years due to a pre-existing condition I was diagnosed with at 16 was so frustrating. The insurance company didn't change, just the employer providing it; why was this such a process?!

3. Something everyone seems to love but is not your 'cuppa tea'

So many of my friends love the Real Housewives franchises. In college, our senior week was even themes around "real housewives of theta". I don't get it. Why would I want to watch women I don't know sit and argue about nonsense and privilege? it just seems utterly exhausting and pointless.

4. Fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding...which entree would you choose? Yes, you have to choose.

Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding - no questions asked! It's the ultimate comfort meal, especially with a side of root veggies and a little horseradish involved!

5. Something you want for your birthday this year?

My birthday is in February, so it's never a good time to travel or do a weekend away, but I love doing experiences for gifts. I've also just enjoyed a fun and fabulous Christmas not too long before, so I mainly enjoy a cozy day with a meal I love and my family. Maybe a pretty bouquet of flowers?

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My throat is so sore and scratchy. I think I need to get a microphone for my media center. My voice can project, but speaking and reading all day long in the library and speaking over the noise of the cafeteria during lunch duty have killed my throat. I'm not sick either, it's just the throat. If you're an educator and use a microphone in your space, do you have one you recommend?

  1. Time with family on my birthday is my favorite too. And a Sunday roast with Yorkshire is so good. Enjoy your day!

  2. I don't watch any of those reality shows; I just don't get them. I sued to watch some of the old ones on Vh1 years ago but I can't stomach the stupidity anymore.

  3. Don't get me started on insurance companies or you will be reading my posts for weeks!!! Not a fan of those reality shows. I take a tablespoon of local grown honey every morning before heading to school; this might help your throat.

  5. Your answer to #2 reminded me of the absolute horror show my last health insurance company was, and yes, I did throw a couple of wobblies in trying to straighten out the horrible mess they made of my dental bills. Which I'm still dealing with, incidentally. UGH. Hope your voice improves and that you're having a good week!
